Job summary

The University of Tennessee, Martin is seeking a College Academic Advisor in the Engineering and Natural Science Department. The role supports a caseload of assigned majors to guide degree completion and advocates for student success with Chairs and the Dean.

The advisor will monitor progress, maintain records, and collaborate with faculty and student success staff to improve retention and graduation outcomes. Experience in advising systems is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; two years of relevant experience.
• Advanced degree preferred.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to analyze problems and formulate solutions.
• Ability to provide excellent customer service.
• Ability to work constructively on a team and to complete work independently.
• Ability to learn and understand new systems.

Responsibilities

• Academic Advising: provide major-specific guidance to students to improve retention and graduation outcomes; assist with course selection and policy understanding.
• Retention and Student Success: monitor progress, engage in campaigns, and guide interventions.
• Programming and Outreach: develop workshops and assist with new student orientation.
• Records Management and Reporting: maintain FERPA-compliant records and prepare progress reports.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field

Two years of relevant experience

Advanced degree preferred
