Job summary

Hunter Philips Executive Search is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead electrical engineering across utility-scale renewable assets in the USA. You will shape performance and reliability for solar, wind and BESS projects, guiding offshore and on-site engineering teams.

The role requires deep MV/HV expertise, robust leadership, and a track record of delivering complex engineering programmes from design through commissioning in a remote-capable setup.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• 10+ years in renewable energy or utility/high-voltage engineering environments.
• Strong expertise in MV/HV systems, substations, and collection systems.
• Experience with power system analysis tools such as ETAP, CAPE, Aspen or equivalents.
• Deep understanding of relay coordination, protection systems, and fault analysis.
• Ability to collaborate with engineering, operations and construction teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical engineering support for utility-scale solar, wind, BESS and substations across the USA.
• Serve as senior technical authority for 15kV–230kV+ infrastructure.
• Oversee fault investigations, relay coordination studies, system analysis and troubleshooting.
• Support capital improvements from engineering design through commissioning and handover.
• Direct reviews of substations, inverter-based resources, PPC systems and grid interconnection.
• Manage external consultants, OEMs and contractors to deliver projects safely and efficiently.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and field teams.
• Drive engineering best practices, reliability standards and compliance.

Engineering Manager | Utility-Scale Renewable Energy – USA

With a secured pipeline of multi-GW projects and a strong operational asset base already in place, they are now looking to strengthen their engineering leadership capability to support the next phase of expansion.

Some duties will include:

• Lead electrical engineering support across utility-scale solar, wind, BESS, and substation assets throughout the USA
• Act as the senior technical authority for medium- and high-voltage systems ranging from 15kV to 230kV+ infrastructure
• Oversee fault investigations, relay coordination studies, system analysis, and troubleshooting activities across operating facilities
• Support capital improvement, retrofit, and upgrade projects from engineering design through commissioning and operational handover
• Direct engineering reviews covering substations, collection systems, inverter-based resources, PPC systems, and grid interconnection infrastructure
• Manage external engineering consultants, OEMs, and technical contractors to ensure projects are delivered safely and efficiently
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and field teams across the operations group
• Drive engineering best practice, compliance, and reliability standards across the renewable energy portfolio

Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
• 10+ years’ experience within renewable energy, utility, IPP, consultancy, or high-voltage engineering environments
• Strong technical expertise across MV/HV electrical systems, substations, collection systems, and utility-scale renewable generation assets
• Proven experience using power system analysis tools such as ETAP, CAPE, Aspen, or equivalent platforms
• Deep understanding of relay coordination studies, relay settings, protection systems, and fault analysis
• Experience supporting engineering design, operations, commissioning, or field engineering activities within utility-scale infrastructure projects
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to operate independently in both office and field-based environments
• Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering, operations, asset management, and construction teams
