Job description

The Manager, Electrical Engineering will oversee junior engineers within the electrical engineering group, with a primary focus on renewable generation projects. This role is responsible for managing engineers who lead conceptual project designs and coordinate with selected engineering firms to complete final detailed designs for construction.

The electrical engineering group supports renewable generation collection systems as well as associated high-voltage (HV) substation engineering. The position leads a collaborative team of engineers dedicated to advancing renewable energy infrastructure.

Responsibilities
Electrical Engineering Management
  • Manage 2–3 junior engineers and provide technical guidance throughout engineering design, construction, and commissioning phases.
  • Conduct regular team meetings, oversee assigned projects, and perform performance evaluations.
  • Drive achievement of team and departmental goals.
  • Support senior leadership with strategic planning, resource planning, and goal setting.
  • Develop and implement standardized designs, processes, and procedures within the electrical engineering function.
  • Apply industry best practices and lessons learned to improve engineering performance.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry technologies and trends.
Electrical Engineering & Technical Oversight
  • Support development of new projects through conceptual design review and RFQ analysis.
  • Ensure conceptual designs comply with owner and interconnection requirements.
  • Conduct detailed design reviews of electrical deliverables including drawings, specifications, and studies related to:
  • DC and AC collection systems (wind, solar, energy storage)
  • High-voltage substations
  • Define scope of required electrical system studies and review results for compliance and accuracy.
  • Track design schedules, communicate updates to stakeholders, and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Provide technical procurement support including:
  • Specification preparation
  • Technical RFP support
  • Review of technical proposals and shop drawings
  • Participation in factory visits and FAT inspections
  • Coordinate closely with operations engineering during design reviews.
Construction Support
  • Monitor construction progress remotely and through on-site inspections.
  • Support resolution of field issues.
  • Attend on-site meetings with electrical contractors and coordination meetings with interconnection utilities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Knowledge of power systems through coursework and/or professional experience.
  • 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience managing a team.
  • Experience with HV/MV electrical infrastructure including substations, switchyards, distribution systems, transmission lines, and transformers.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Visio.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 15%.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Experience building and leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Experience with HV/MV equipment in renewable energy applications.
  • Practical construction experience with HV electrical systems and renewable energy facilities.
