Job summary

Kraken is hiring a senior engineering leader to head the Trading Backend team. You will guide 8–10 engineers responsible for the matching engine, market data gateways, and order entry systems, while remaining technically engaged to unblock and contribute across the stack.

You will drive performance, modernize the stack, and collaborate with product teams, mentoring engineers to meet aggressive deadlines in a distributed, crypto-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Experience managing engineering teams with technical engagement.
• Hands-on in Linux-based, distributed, low-latency systems.
• Proficiency in Rust and/or C++, with multi-language comfort.
• Knowledge of order types, trading systems and financial products.
• Experience with Aeron or similar messaging systems a plus.
• Crypto familiarity is highly preferable.
• Ability to prioritize for aggressive deadlines and mentor engineers.
• BS in a technical or quantitative field.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of 8-10 engineers owning core trading backend services.
• Guide evolution of trading stack from legacy to modern replacements.
• Stay technically close to stack to unblock and contribute to architecture.
• Champion performance and market data work as top priorities.
• Introduce AI-assisted engineering practices into team workflows.
• Partner cross-functionally with product and other pods to drive roadmaps.
• Represent the team technically with peers and stakeholders.
