Job summary

Anthropic is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Search Platform team. You will own the indexing, retrieval, ranking and serving stack behind Claude, ensuring scalable, reliable search across multiple surfaces.

You will partner with product, research and infrastructure teams to shape strategy, drive quality improvements and balance demand with capacity. A strong track record in managing engineers and a passion for AI safety is essential.

Qualifications

• Significant experience managing engineering teams.
• Direct experience building or operating search systems at scale.
• Hands-on capability to review designs and code.
• Product-minded with ability to make product calls when PM is absent.
• Experience running high-scale, latency-sensitive production systems.
• Strong cross-functional skills across product, research, and infrastructure.
• Experience recruiting and closing senior engineers.
• Interest in AI safety and Anthropic's mission.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the team of engineers building Anthropic's search platform: indexing, retrieval, ranking and serving.
• Own the strategy and roadmap for the platform and how Claude's search needs are met over time.
• Own search quality: evaluation methodology, relevance measurement, regression detection and the ranking improvements they drive.
• Operate the platform at scale, balancing product traffic against research and training demand with high reliability and cost efficiency.
• Wear the product hat when appropriate: prioritize search experience needs and sequence launches.
• Drive cross-team collaboration with product, research and infrastructure partners; clarify dependencies and risks.
• Be hands-on in design reviews, incident follow-ups and deep-dives into relevance movements.
• Recruit, close and retain strong engineers in a competitive market.
