Job summary

Beyond Finance is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager in Chicago to lead backend architecture and drive technical direction for creditor negotiations. You will mentor engineers, shape the pod's roadmap, and ensure scalable, reliable systems within a compliance-focused fintech platform.

The role emphasizes strong leadership, cloud experience, and ability to translate large projects into actionable iterations, with collaboration across product, QA, and other teams.

Qualifications

• Experience managing engineering teams (leadership, coaching, and performance development).
• 5+ years of experience building and deploying scalable applications in the cloud.
• Experience with Ruby on Rails (Rails proficiency).
• Expertise in scoping large projects and initiatives into small iterations for release.
• Clear and efficient communication skills, able to convey complex ideas simply.
• Mentorship skills and ability to give well-crafted constructive feedback.
• Startup environment experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Own technical direction and backend architecture for supporting creditor negotiations.
• Prototype new architecture and patterns, and lead technical projects that strengthen the platform.
• Regularly code review and demonstrate technical leadership over systems to guide designs and tradeoffs.
• Partner with product management, QA and SDETs, and other engineering teams to plan, prioritize, and deliver the pod's roadmap.
• Weigh in on feasibility, cost, and risk of product decisions, and propose alternatives when beneficial.
• Lead a high-performing team: mentor engineers, staff them on projects, and grow their skills while keeping engineering bar high.
• Set and model best practices for code quality, testing, reliability, and data integrity across external integrations and sensitive financial data.
