Job summary

Affirm is seeking a seasoned Engineering Manager to lead the Resilience Engineering team, driving production load testing and chaos engineering to ensure reliable systems.

You will build platforms, implement safeguards, and partner with infrastructure and security to embed resilience into the software lifecycle. This remote-first role offers broad scope across testing in production, observability, and incident response, with competitive compensation.

Qualifications

• Leadership experience in reliability, infrastructure, or distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience with production load testing and chaos engineering.
• Experience with chaos engineering vendors such as Gremlin, Harness, or similar.
• Strong understanding of failure modes in distributed systems (latency, partial failure, cascading outages).
• Experience building or operating systems with safety guarantees (isolation, rate limiting, auditability).
• Familiarity with cloud-native environments (AWS, Kubernetes) and observability tooling.
• Strong programming background (Python, Kotlin, Java, or similar).
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to balance long-term resilience investments with business needs.
• Strong communication and leadership skills across teams.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor engineers building resilience platforms and tooling.
• Define and drive resilience validation strategy within the SDLC.
• Partner with infra, product, and security leadership to embed resilience practices.
• Establish safeguards and test boundaries for safe production experiments.
• Own platforms enabling safe production load testing and fault injection.
• Drive end-to-end observability, auditability, and incident response for resilience tests.
• Promote a culture of testing and learning from test failures across the org.
