Stripe is seeking an Engineering Manager for Abuse Control Engineering in the Atlanta area. You will lead a rapid-response team responsible for closing urgent abuse gaps, incubating controls, and handing them off to product teams with clear ownership and timelines.

The role focuses on technical direction, people leadership, hiring, coaching, and cross‑functional execution, balancing risk reduction with user experience. Strong security engineering background is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience leading an engineering team and setting direction across multiple products.
• Strong foundation in software security engineering, anti‑abuse engineering, or equivalent field.
• Experience hiring, coaching, and developing engineers across levels with actionable feedback.
• Experience leading cross‑functional technical work involving different goals or ownership boundaries.
• Ability to evaluate technical designs and guide decisions involving reliability, security, risk, and product tradeoffs.
• Proven ability to communicate technical strategy, priorities, risks, and decisions to engineers and stakeholders.
• Ability to create clarity in ambiguous or urgent situations and translate risk into actionable plans.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction: define and communicate the team’s strategy and priorities for cross‑product abuse gaps and incubating controls.
• Lead and develop the team: hire, coach, and support engineers; set expectations and feedback; foster growth.
• Guide evidence‑based decisions: ensure attacker evidence, product context, and outcomes inform requirements and investments.
• Drive secure control design: partner with security and product teams to design resilient and appropriately scoped safeguards.
• Oversee experimentation: guide experiments that assess risk reduction and effects on legitimate user conversions.
• Build durable defenses: develop regression tests and mechanisms to detect recurrence of abuse patterns.
• Manage control incubation: establish success measures, documentation, owners, and handoff criteria.
• Complete ownership handoffs: transfer successful controls to product teams with clear criteria and timelines.
