Job summary

Stripe is seeking an Engineering Manager for Abuse Control Engineering to lead a rapid-response technical defense team. You will own the team’s technical direction, people leadership, hiring, coaching, and cross-functional execution.

You will translate attacker evidence into priorities, guide safeguards design, and ensure disciplined incubation and handoffs to product teams with clear ownership and timelines.

Qualifications

• Experience leading an engineering team and delivering technical outcomes.
• Experience with security engineering, anti-abuse, or related fields.
• Experience hiring, coaching, and developing engineers at different levels.
• Experience leading cross-functional work across teams with differing goals.
• Ability to evaluate designs and guide decisions on reliability, security, and risk.
• Ability to communicate strategy and decisions clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to create clarity in urgent situations and translate risk into actionable plans.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction: define strategy and priorities for identifying abuse gaps, incubating controls, and preventing recurrence.
• Lead and develop the team: hire, coach, set expectations, and create growth opportunities.
• Guide evidence-based decisions: use attacker evidence, product context, and measurable outcomes to inform requirements.
• Drive secure control design: collaborate with security and product teams to build resilient safeguards.
• Oversee experimentation: guide experiments to assess risk reduction and impact on user conversion.
• Build durable defenses: ensure regression tests and mechanisms to detect recurrence of abuse patterns.
• Manage control incubation: establish success metrics, readiness, and handoff criteria for incubated controls.
• Complete ownership handoffs: transfer successful controls to product teams owning surfaces.
