The New York Times Company is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Privacy & Governance Services team in New York, NY. This hybrid role reports to the Senior Engineering Manager of Data Platform and focuses on building compliant, high-quality data solutions.

You will lead a cross-functional engineering team, drive automation and operational excellence, and collaborate with product managers to shape roadmaps while upholding the newsroom’s standards for privacy and data governance.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year in engineering management with 4+ years guiding cross-functional partners.
• 5+ years of full-stack software engineering designing scalable systems with high traffic.
• Strong technical fluency and experience guiding architecture discussions.
• Experience developing high-performing teams and growing engineering capabilities.
• Proven ability to foster a culture of trust and productivity across teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of engineers, promoting collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
• Coach engineers, helping them grow in their careers.
• Build automation for operational needs including processes, SLAs, and escalation paths.
• Oversee roadmap execution, boosting productivity and delivery.
• Collaborate with product managers to define requirements and roadmaps.
• Guide technical decisions and architectural designs for projects.
• Monitor progress and manage risks.
