Job summary

The New York Times Company seeks a Vice President, Head of Privacy to oversee the global data privacy program, information security, and consumer marketing compliance. You will partner with senior leaders to implement risk controls, privacy by design, and regulatory adherence across product, engineering, and marketing.

You will lead a multidisciplinary team, shape privacy strategy, and guide incident response, vendor governance, and data protection across the organization from our New York

Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience in US and international data privacy and protection; negotiating data privacy-related agreements, building, implementing, and maintaining a global privacy program; supporting cybersecurity.
• 5+ years of experience managing people with cross-functional relationships and competing priorities.
• 5+ years of previous in-house experience.
• Experience advising on online safety laws and sensitive data privacy regulations.
• Experience guiding teams on payflow, subscriptions, marketing, and ad tech data/privacy issues.

Responsibilities

• Advise internal clients on privacy, cybersecurity, and data governance for consumers, employees, and stakeholders.
• Guide stakeholders on data governance, marketing and subscriptions compliance with company goals.
• Drive privacy program maturity, incident readiness, vendor governance, and compliant product launches.
• Draft and update privacy policies, terms of use, and consumer-facing policies.
• Oversee Data Protection Impact Assessments and risk assessments; implement risk mitigation.
• Advise on privacy regulatory and contractual compliance in marketing, ad tech, and data sharing.
• Negotiate data protection agreements and security exhibits with third parties.
• Provide product counseling on privacy, cybersecurity, and compliance for new releases.
• Monitor US and international privacy developments and counsel accordingly.
• Serve as legal lead for security incidents and information security policy updates.
• Advise data science teams on privacy-compliant deployment of ML models.
