Job summary

The New York Times Company in New York City seeks a Vice President, Head of Privacy to lead data privacy, security, and consumer compliance across the company and manage the privacy function. The role is hybrid with in‑office days in NYC three times a week, reporting to the SVP, Associate General Counsel & Strategic Partnerships.

You will oversee privacy, cybersecurity, and data governance initiatives, working with senior executives and teams across marketing, product, engineering and data

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor is required and must be a member of the New York Bar.
• 15+ years of experience in US and international data privacy and protection; negotiating data privacy-related agreements, building, implementing, and maintaining a global privacy program; supporting cybersecurity.
• 5+ years of experience managing people with proven cross-functional relationship skills.
• 5+ years of prior in-house experience.
• Experience advising on online safety laws and biometric privacy regulations.
• Experience advising or managing teams on payflow, subscriptions, marketing, ad tech and related laws.

Responsibilities

• Advise internal clients on privacy risks and governance of personal data for consumers, employees, and stakeholders.
• Drive privacy program maturity, incident readiness, vendor governance, and compliant product launches.
• Draft and update privacy policies, terms of use, and consumer-facing policies.
• Provide product counseling on privacy, cybersecurity and consumer compliance for releases.
• Lead DPIAs and risk assessments; implement mitigation and corrective actions.
• Advise on privacy regulatory compliance in marketing, ad sales, and data integrations; manage third-party risk reviews.
• Oversee training and serve as liaison with data protection authorities.
