Hobson & Motzer, Inc. is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a multidisciplinary team in Durham, CT.

This on-site role focuses on planning, budgeting, and delivering complex precision manufacturing initiatives while driving integration of new technologies and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate has strong engineering and project-management skills, experience with CNC machining, and a track record of improving process efficiency and quality in a production setting.

Qualifications

Strong Engineering Management and Project Management skills to plan, prioritize, and deliver complex manufacturing and engineering initiatives.
Team Leadership skills, including mentoring, performance management, and the ability to build collaborative, high-performing engineering teams.
Software Development and Integration skills to oversee the implementation and coordination of engineering software tools, systems, and automated solutions.
Experience in precision manufacturing, CNC machining, or related industrial environments, with a solid understanding of process optimization and quality control.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or related field) or equivalent practical experience; advanced degree is a plus.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) and familiarity with ISO or similar quality standards is beneficial.
Demonstrated ability to work on-site in a production environment and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including operations, tooling, and quality.

Responsibilities

Oversee engineering activities that support precision manufacturing operations.
Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary engineering team, ensuring effective planning, execution, and completion of projects.
Coordinate engineering resources and review designs and process plans.
Drive integration of new technologies and collaborate with production, quality, and tooling teams to optimize processes.
Monitor project timelines and budgets; manage technical risks and communicate status to stakeholders and customers.
Promote continuous improvement and standardize best practices to enhance efficiency, quality, and innovation.
