athenahealth is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the athenaCollector team in Boston to design scalable, secure software powering our Revenue Cycle Management platform. You’ll work with AI-assisted development, maintain code quality, and own security and reliability in production.

The role emphasizes AI-driven workflows, collaboration with product/design/QA/SRE, and evolution toward spec-first, AI-accelerated delivery in a healthcare context.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of engineering experience in a product development organization.
• Solid backend experience in Java and Spring Boot.
• Demonstrated use of AI coding assistants or agentic dev tools in production workflow.

Responsibilities

• Translate specifications and acceptance criteria into well-tested changes with sharp upstream requirements.
• Use AI coding assistants throughout the SDLC while owning correctness, security, and maintainability.
