Job summary

Justworks is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team of software engineers, balancing hands-on coding with people management. You will coordinate projects, set priorities, and motivate engineers to build and maintain customer-facing features.

You bring 7+ years in software development, 1+ year in team management, and strong communication and empathy to foster collaboration and growth across the organization.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience as a software engineer working on production web applications.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience managing a team of engineers.
• Demonstrable experience prioritizing, crafting, and achieving plans.
• Strong communication skills with ability to grasp and explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical people.
• High levels of empathy and interpersonal skills.
• Solid understanding of core web development technologies (data structures, data stores, algorithms, distributed systems).

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate projects with Engineers, Design, and Product Managers to prioritize and ship features.
• Define and execute the team’s long-term strategy and quarterly roadmap with goals and progress tracking.
• Communicate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and opportunities for improvement.
• Mentor engineers to grow technical skills and foster a culture of excellence and learning.
• Attract, hire, develop, and retain a high-performing engineering team.
