Gemini Legal is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team of engineers, own delivery and growth, and guide design decisions while remaining technically credible. The role partners with Tech Leads and directs career development, hiring, onboarding, and performance management in a hybrid Rocklin, CA environment.

Expect hands-on contributions about 20% of time. The position offers a strong pay range and comprehensive benefits in a full-time capacity.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of progressive software engineering experience.
• 2+ years of experience directly managing engineers, including performance reviews.
• Experience managing a team of five or more direct reports preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage a team of engineers, with regular one-on-ones and performance visibility.
• Own team performance management: goals, reviews, recognition, addressing underperformance.
• Partner on career development and progression plans for engineers.
• Lead hiring: define roles, interview, and hiring decisions with HR.
• Onboard new engineers to reach independent contribution within ramp period.
• Accountable for delivery commitments: scope, sequencing, and scheduling changes.
• Allocate engineers to projects, balancing business needs and individual growth.
• Coordinate with Tech Leads to align direction with people management.
• Translate business objectives into engineering plans with Product Owners and PMO.
• Escalate delivery and technical risks to the VP of Engineering with options.
• Maintain technical credibility through reviews and design discussions; 20% hands-on time.
• Contribute to architectural/technology decisions affecting team systems.
• Improve team processes, planning, estimation, and documentation.
• Foster psychological safety and shared accountability for quality.
