Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is seeking a Test Engineering Manager to lead and grow our production test engineering organization in support of expanding manufacturing operations. This is a unique opportunity to directly influence the future of test engineering at SEL by building high-performing teams, mentoring engineers, advancing manufacturing test capabilities, and driving continuous improvement across the organization.

As a Test Engineering Manager, you will play a critical leadership role in developing both people and processes. You will lead a team of talented test engineers, helping them grow their technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and careers while scaling the organization to meet the increasing demand for SEL products. Working closely with R&D and Manufacturing leadership, you will help shape manufacturing test strategies, support new product introductions, and drive initiatives that improve product quality, operational efficiency, and manufacturing scalability.

This role offers the opportunity to influence long-term test engineering direction, evaluate emerging technologies, advance automation initiatives, and build the organizational capabilities needed to support SEL's continued growth.

As a Test Engineering Manager, a typical day might include:
  • Leading, mentoring, and developing a team of test engineers while fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Building organizational capability through strategic hiring, succession planning, and employee development to support the growing demand for SEL products.
  • Partnering closely with R&D and Manufacturing leadership to align priorities, solve complex challenges, and drive successful business outcomes.
  • Collaborating with R&D teams to develop and deploy manufacturing test strategies that support new product introductions (NPI).
  • Driving the development and continuous improvement of production test systems, automation solutions, and manufacturing test processes.
  • Leading initiatives that improve product quality, test coverage, reliability, throughput, and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Evaluating and implementing emerging test technologies and automation capabilities that enhance manufacturing performance and scalability.
  • Balancing quality, schedule, cost, and performance objectives while leading engineering projects and technical initiatives.
  • Developing long-term roadmaps for manufacturing test technologies, organizational capabilities, and engineering resources.
  • Working across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to identify opportunities and deliver sustainable improvements.
  • Communicating technical strategy, organizational priorities, and business results to senior leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Modeling, teaching, and applying SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing principles.
This position may be a good fit if you have:
  • A passion for building teams, developing engineers, and creating an environment where people can do their best work.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 8+ years of engineering and/or engineering management experience.
  • Demonstrated success leading engineering teams through growth, organizational change, and increasing business demands.
  • Strong technical expertise in electronics manufacturing, production test engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Experience developing and supporting manufacturing test systems, automated test solutions, and production processes.
  • Proven ability to partner effectively with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and Operations leaders.
  • Experience leading cross-functional projects and driving organizational improvements.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to develop practical, scalable solutions for complex technical and business challenges.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, coaching, and leadership skills.
Why This Role?
  • Directly influence the growth and future direction of SEL's Test Engineering organization.
  • Build and develop a team that is essential to supporting increasing demand for SEL products.
  • Partner closely with R&D and Manufacturing leadership to shape strategy and execution.
  • Mentor engineers and help develop the next generation of technical leaders.
  • Drive meaningful improvements in quality, automation, manufacturing efficiency, and operational excellence.
  • Contribute to the success of an employee‑owned company committed to long‑term growth and innovation.
