Job summary

Topstep is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead TRM Engineering, responsible for the trader-facing web experience and internal tooling. You will ensure technical quality, delivery cadence, and team health, partnering with senior engineers, Product, Design, QA, and Infra. Hands-on work is welcome but not required.

The role emphasizes building inclusive cultures, coaching engineers, and shaping architecture while balancing feature delivery with reliability and operational excellence.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience with production systems.
• 2+ years engineering management experience with hiring and coaching.
• Track record delivering complex technical work balancing feature delivery and reliability.
• Experience owning production systems, on-call, incident response and reliability.
• Inclusive, collaborative leadership with focus on psychological safety and growth.
• Technical credibility to guide architecture and decisions across TypeScript/Node.js web apps, API design, and third-party integrations.
• Hands-on background with TypeScript/Node.js, React or similar, and AWS cloud infra (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD.
• Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences; data-informed in team health and delivery.

Responsibilities

• Run the team: set direction, hiring bar, interview process and day-to-day operations.
• Lead and develop the team: 1:1s, feedback, performance reviews, growth coaching.
• Own technical quality: guide architecture, evaluate third-party tech, shape epics on reliability and security.
• Drive reliability and operational excellence: PRs, environments, on-call health, incident follow-through.
• Own delivery cadence: partner with Product/Design, plan capacity, manage scope and estimates.
• Cross-org partnership: work with senior engineers, PM, Design, QA, Support and Infra.
• Maintain team health and effectiveness in dependencies and collaboration.
