Topstep is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the trading platform's architecture and production systems. You will own end-to-end design, deployment, and reliability for high-throughput services, with occasional work on the React/TypeScript frontend.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in software engineering shipping production systems at scale.
• Deep proficiency in C#/.NET with production services used across teams.
• Experience designing service boundaries and API versioning in microservices.
• Experience building distributed, high-availability systems with async communication.
• Strong PostgreSQL or SQL Server database design, queries, transactions.
• Observability tools and distributed tracing in production environments.
• Proven ownership of production systems including debugging and incidents.
• Experience with Docker and AWS in cloud-based architectures.
• Strong testing mindset across unit, integration, and system tests.
• Excellent communication to explain trade-offs to engineers and product.

Responsibilities

• Design and build services and APIs powering core trading platform capabilities.
• Own initiatives end-to-end from design through production deployment and monitoring.
• Collaborate with product and design to translate needs into scalable solutions.
• Contribute to architecture decisions and establish reusable patterns.
• Write clean, well-tested code with focus on reliability and performance.
• Participate in on-call rotations and drive incident response improvements.
• Build observability through metrics, logging, and distributed tracing.
• Occasionally contribute to React/TypeScript frontend when needed.
• Mentor engineers via code reviews and knowledge sharing.
• Balance technical debt with feature delivery and strategic trade-offs.
• Strengthen engineering culture through tooling and process improvements.
