Job summary

AngelList is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead Nova Foundations, the core money-movement and identity system for private markets. This hands-on, player-coach role centers on growing the team, driving the roadmap with stakeholders, and setting the technical vision while staying close to code to unblock the team.

Report to the Head of Nova Engineering, you’ll work with product managers and engineers to deliver high-assurance backend platforms with stringent security and reliability standards.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of engineering management experience with hiring, developing, and enabling engineers.
• Experience with fintech, payments, banking, ledgers, KYC or compliance systems.
• A track record of shipping and operating backend or platform systems with high reliability.
• Familiarity with Ruby on Rails or ability to learn quickly.

Responsibilities

• Own the results of Nova Foundations, including ledger, bank and payment integrations, KYC, and PII systems.
• Grow the team from ~4 to 5-7 engineers and help stand up two focused teams: money movement and risk/compliance.
• Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to progress the roadmap.
• Set a clear technical direction with senior and staff engineers.
• Maintain shipping velocity while upholding correctness, auditability, security, and reliability.
• Stay hands-on when needed to unblock the team and support technical decisions.
