Job summary

H&R Block is seeking a senior technology leader to direct the Spruce fintech engineering organization in Kansas City. You will set engineering strategy, drive delivery across multiple squads, and partner with Product, Design, Security, and Compliance to deliver secure, resilient digital banking experiences.

Ideal candidates have 8+ years in tech leadership, hands-on mobile and fintech delivery, and a track record using AI responsibly to improve velocity, quality, and customer outcomes.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of tech leadership and delivering mission-critical initiatives.
• Experience leveraging AI-powered tools and agentic development practices.
• Proven people leadership across multiple teams and squads.
• Experience aligning priorities across squads, PMs, and stakeholders.
• Delivery of customer-facing digital products in regulated or high-availability environments.
• Strong modern software engineering practices incl. Agile, DevSecOps, observability.

Responsibilities

• Own technology strategy, delivery roadmap, and outcomes for Spruce fintech.
• Lead coordination across squads, PMs, and key integrations.
• Partner with Product and Design to shape outcomes and trade-offs.
• Provide hands-on leadership for mobile engineering across iOS/Android.
• Ensure secure, compliant, high-quality fintech experiences and production stability.
• Manage risks, ownership, and escalation paths for critical issues.
• Communicate delivery health and dependencies to leadership.
• Build partnerships with architecture, cybersecurity, compliance, operations, data, and vendors.
• Coach and develop engineers and leaders; manage succession and resourcing.
• Attract and grow diverse technical talent with a strong ownership culture.
• Apply AI in leadership and delivery with responsible controls.
