Associated Press in New York (hybrid) seeks an Engineering Manager to lead consumer platform and applications, guiding frontend (React/Next.js) and backend services that power AP's reader experience.

You will mentor a distributed team, drive AI-assisted development, own GraphQL APIs, and coordinate releases across web and mobile apps, collaborating with product, design, editorial, QA, security and revenue.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in computer science or a related field.
• Hands-on leadership with delivery ownership for consumer-facing platforms.
• Strong product-minded approach with system design judgment.

Responsibilities

• Lead a distributed team of engineers across time zones.
• Code reviews, architecture decisions, prototyping, unblock complex initiatives.
• Drive AI-assisted development and agentic workflows in delivery and review.
• Lead development of headless web apps using React/Next.js and mobile apps.
• Extend CMS and backend services powering editorial workflows and consumer products.
• Own GraphQL APIs and data contracts with backward-compatible changes.
• Drive performance from client Core Web Vitals to backend latency and caching.
• Coordinate web and app releases with Operations Center for incidents.
