Job summary

Fanatics Betting & Gaming is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the team building the Balance and Ledger platform, responsible for customer funds across Fanatics. You will guide backend engineers (Java, Spring Boot, AWS) and shape architecture, processes, and culture while ensuring accuracy and reliability.

This role partners with Finance, Legal, and Compliance, drives operational excellence, and mentors engineers in a fast-growing, regulated environment within the CAT domain.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years managing software engineering teams in regulated or high‑stakes environments.
• Experience with Java and AWS in production systems.
• Familiarity with ledgers, wallets, balance services, payments, or financial systems of record.
• Strong understanding of transactional consistency and idempotent operations.
• Experience with event‑driven architectures and Kafka.
• Experience leading migrations of live systems with minimal customer impact.

Responsibilities

• Own ledger and balance services for customer funds with high correctness and availability.
• Drive security, reliability, observability, and on‑call practices.
• Plan migrations of wallets onto the shared ledger with cutovers and rollbacks.
• Partner with Finance, Legal, and Compliance on fund attribution and audits.
• Lead hiring, coaching, performance management, and career development.
• Define a roadmap balancing new capabilities, migrations, and technical health.
• Communicate with Engineering, Product, Finance, Legal, and Compliance.
• Coordinate with Payments team and other Fanatics businesses on ownership boundaries.
• Mentor engineers and promote a culture of accountability and innovation.
• Travel as needed for in‑person meetings and conferences.
