Job summary

Edison Scientific in San Francisco is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead and scale our product engineering team powering an autonomous scientific discovery platform. You’ll mentor engineers and own both the API and UI layers, collaborating with scientists, product managers, and designers to solve complex UX and architecture challenges.

You will guide production-ready features, influence system design, and ensure scalable, high-velocity delivery in a fast-moving biotech AI environment.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience managing an engineering team and leading cross-functional initiatives.
• Prior experience as a product engineer at a high-velocity engineering-focused organization.
• Hands-on fullstack proficiency: Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, modern frontend frameworks, and infrastructure tooling.
• Deep familiarity with systems and API design, product thinking, and operating applications in production.
• Strong understanding of systems architecture including distributed systems, data modeling, and cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Manage and grow our product engineering team, mentoring, career development, and the hiring pipeline as we scale from four to ten engineers by end of year.
• Partner with our product and research teams to bring state of the art features into production.
• Set the technical strategy for our AI product platform, focusing on engineering quality and velocity.
• Diagnose and solve challenges that our scientists face in using our platform for discoveries.
• Own technical decision making surrounding our API and UI layers.
• Manage cross-functional communication and planning between engineering teams and stakeholders.
