Job summary

Agave is seeking a world-class engineering manager to lead a team of strong full-stack engineers shipping AI and agent products, while still contributing hands-on as an IC. This in-person role is based in San Francisco, five days a week, reporting to the founding team.

Qualifications

• 4+ years as a back-end/full-stack engineer with 1+ years in a leadership/mentoring role.
• Experience designing and building production systems with cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS).
• Track record debugging complex production issues (DB, memory, concurrency).
• Led projects, scoped work, and delivered with multiple engineers.
• Mentored engineers and delivered candid feedback, including tough conversations.

Responsibilities

• Spend 50-60% of time as an IC, shipping code and solving tough technical problems.
• Lead a team of 4-6 engineers with 1:1s, feedback, and career growth.
• Own delivery for the team’s area: scope, sequence, and ship commitments to customers.
• Set the technical bar through design/code reviews and pairing.
• Help interview and onboard new engineers as the team grows.
