Job summary

Colorado Mesa University is seeking a 0.8 FTE, 10-month Engineering Machinist/Laboratory Technician to oversee the Engineering Program's machine shop and laboratories. You will mentor students, ensure safety, and manage equipment and print operations to support courses, capstones, and competitions.

The role requires hands-on fabrication expertise, CAD/CAM proficiency, and a commitment to safe, compliant shop practices within CMU's Confluence Hall environment.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree and 4+ years of relevant technical experience.
• Familiarity with CNC setup, programming, and operation.
• Familiarity with safe operation and maintenance of general metalworking and woodworking equipment.
• Ability to utilize computer technology and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to effectively present information to students and faculty.
• Knowledge of SolidWorks or other CAD/CAM software.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety compliance for all faculty, staff, and students in the shop and labs.
• Review student designs for manufacturability and guide fabrication decisions.
• Set up and operate manual and CNC machines, welders, and 3D printers.
• Manage shop and lab equipment maintenance, inventory, and records.
• Hire, train, and supervise student assistants and monitor hours and budgets.
