Job summary

Merck seeks an Associate Director of Engineering to manage large capital projects, or a portfolio of smaller projects, across manufacturing, laboratory, packaging, and infrastructure lines. Initial assignment in Wilson, NC with potential future placements in other sites.

The role requires a minimum of ten years delivering capital/expense projects in complex operating environments, leading cross-functional teams, and ensuring safety, quality, and startup readiness.

Qualifications

• Minimum of ten (10) years of experience delivering capital/expense projects in manufacturing or similar environments.
• Experience leading cross-functional project teams and influencing stakeholders.
• Experience in active manufacturing/operating facilities emphasizing safety, quality, compliance, and startup readiness.

Responsibilities

• Manage large capital or multiple smaller projects within a portfolio, delivering assets safely, on time, and within budget.
• Lead cross-functional teams across many departments to align projects with site expectations.
• Develop and execute project execution plans covering scope, delivery strategy, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
• Ensure project scopes deliver business solutions aligned with priorities, manufacturing needs and standards.
• Coordinate procurement strategies with stakeholders to support schedule and risk management.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and change management for projects.
• Maintain project schedules with sequencing, milestones, and critical path management.
• Provide governance, funding, and decision materials for review by stakeholders.
