Job summary

Avathon, Inc. in Pleasanton, CA, is seeking an Engineering Lead for Planning to turn forecasting and optimization models into production planning software, including demand, supply and capacity planning, inventory, and clear-to-build.

You’ll lead a team of engineers, own the architecture, and collaborate with product management on roadmaps while ensuring quality, performance, and reliability in production. This is a hands-on leadership role with customer go-lives and escalations.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years leading engineers.
• Built planning, scheduling, forecasting or optimization software, ideally at a vendor or on planning systems at a large manufacturer.
• Strong backend skills in Python, Java or similar, with experience building data pipelines and APIs.
• Experience integrating optimization solvers and ML models into production systems.
• Solid understanding of supply chain planning concepts: demand, supply, MRP, capacity and inventory.
• Experience with large-scale data processing and cloud platforms (GCP or AWS); graph data models are a plus.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Operations Research or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical architecture for Planning services: data models, plan generation, scenario and what-if runs, plan versioning and reconciliation.
• Build pipelines that bring orders, inventory, BOM, production schedule and shipment data from ERP, MES, PLM and TMS sources into the planning model.
• Productionize forecasting and optimization models built with AI scientists, including solver integration, scheduling of plan runs and monitoring.
• Design for scale: large multi-level BOMs, many SKUs and sites, and plans that refresh in minutes, not overnight.
