Job summary

EarthOptics in Raleigh, North Carolina is seeking a Software Engineering Lead to own the Mobile GroundOwl application and coordinate field workflows with lab automation, sensors, and embedded hardware.

You will work across software, hardware, and product teams to deliver reliable software, improve testing and observability, and apply strong engineering practices, including careful use of AI-assisted development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/EE or related field or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience with mobile React Native is preferred.
• Strong Python and comfort with C/C++ for embedded work.
• Experience with sensors, actuators, and data acquisition hardware.
• Ability to prototype and iterate with real hardware.
• Experience with Git, code reviews, and automated testing.
• Ability to use AI coding assistants responsibly.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the Mobile GroundOwl application and coordinate field workflows with lab automation and hardware.
• Improve reliability via automated testing, observability, documentation, and tooling for offline operation.
• Design and develop lab automation systems integrating software, firmware, sensors, motors, actuators, and microcontrollers.
• Collaborate across EarthOptics products with product, hardware, and ops teams to solve real problems.
• Apply engineering practices across prototypes and production systems, including AI-assisted development with careful validation.
