Job summary

Three Notch Group in Charlotte, NC offers the Pathfinder Internship Journey for Civil/Environmental engineering students. Interns rotate across departments, contribute to real projects, and connect classroom knowledge with professional practice under mentorship.

During the summer, interns gain exposure from planning to completion, work with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, and other tools, attend meetings, and develop learning goals.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Basic knowledge of engineering principles, materials, and construction processes through completed coursework or academic projects.
• Previous coursework or project experience related to transportation, site design, geotechnical engineering, utilities, environmental systems, construction, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Familiarity with CAD or engineering tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or GIS is preferred.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform calculations and interpret technical information.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Curiosity, initiative, and willingness to learn from multiple disciplines, departments, and project teams.
• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Ability and willingness to travel to project sites or other Three Notch Group locations as needed.
• Valid driver’s license may be required for certain assignments or locations.

Responsibilities

• Rotate through departments to experience multiple phases of project delivery from start to finish.
• Contribute to real assignments that reinforce engineering concepts, technical coursework, and professional problem‑solving skills.
• Assist with the preparation of plans, calculations, reports, exhibits, data summaries, quantity estimates, and other project deliverables under appropriate supervision.
• Gain exposure to Three Notch Group services across Civil/Site Development, Transportation, Utility, Environmental, Geotechnical and Construction Engineering, Field and Laboratory Services, and UST services.
• Attend project meetings, team discussions, training sessions, and professional‑development activities.
• Work with assigned mentors and supervisors to set learning goals, ask questions, receive feedback, and reflect on areas of interest.
• Prepare and maintain accurate work products, notes, documentation, and assigned project information.
• Follow company safety, quality, confidentiality, and professional‑conduct requirements.
• Share observations and takeaways from internship rotations to help identify preferred disciplines, career interests, and next steps.
