Job summary

American Electric Power invites you to apply for an engineering internship in Tulsa, Oklahoma for a 10–12 week, paid program designed to kickstart your career. Interns gain hands-on experience, mentorship, and exposure to real projects in a utility setting.

You must be pursuing an ABET‑accredited degree in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, have completed freshman year, and be 18+. A housing stipend of $1,500 per month is provided for moves over 45 miles from home, with

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering in an ABET-accredited program.
  • Must have completed at least your freshman year.
  • Graduation date of December 2027 or later.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • This position is not eligible for sponsorship, OPT, or CPT.
  • Willingness and ability to relocate for the summer to one of our engineering internship locations, if necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project teams and engineers on planning, designing and executing enterprise resource projects to ensure seamless integration from design to construction.
  • Engage in design reviews, training sessions, knowledge-building projects and constructability assessments to maintain safety and operational standards.
  • Participate in field visits to operational facilities to understand power system operations and assist in inspections and tests.
  • Assist in development and analyses of databases, reports, cost estimates and dashboards to enhance data-driven decision-making.
  • Support documentation for decision-making processes and initiatives aimed at improving operational performance and safety in our services.
  • Embrace AEP's safety culture by understanding safety guidelines and standards in both office and field environments.
  • Expand engineering skills by taking on new challenges.
