Job summary

Trachte Building Systems in Sun Prairie, WI is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Intern to learn manufacturing functions across Mechanical Engineering, Continuous Improvement, Lean and Safety Initiatives. You will analyze machine setup procedures, document current state and identify future state improvements, and lead time studies with new standard methods using AutoCAD.

The role offers hands-on experience in promoting a lean culture, updating production layouts, and implementing process flow

Qualifications

• Student currently enrolled in an Industrial, Mechanical, Process or related Engineering program.
• Knowledge of Lean tools such as Time/Motion Study, 5S, Kanban, Standardization.
• Motivated to identify waste, propose improvements, and lead or support project implementation.
• Proficiencies in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
• Good communication skills: verbal, written and able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
• Must be detail oriented, team player, flexible and self-starter with strong interpersonal skills.
• Production environment requiring the ability to walk and stand for the entire work shift.

Responsibilities

• Create/update work instructions and standard work for assigned cells. Work with operators to document their processes, study the operations and work practices for improvements, and document findings.
• Quantify process improvements in terms of additional throughput, ergonomics, reduction in non-value-added activity, set up reduction time, and quality improvements. Work with the operators to identify work center improvements.
• Analyze setup procedures for each assigned work area, documenting the current state and defining set up reduction opportunities, measure and implement. Implement a 5S process within each work cell; engaging the operators in this practice
• Promote a lean culture by leading kaizen events, hosting formalized training, and managing the improvement of the company’s manufacturing process.
• Create, improve, document, and sustain processes improvements and be an advocate for change.
• Promote all Safety and 5-S policies and procedures; help run clean and safe work cells.
• Supports the Operations teams to delivers the measurable results as defined.

Job Location: Comm IV - Sun Prairie, WI, Position Type: Full Time, Salary Range: Undisclosed, Job Shift: Office - Days, The Manufacturing Engineering Internship is a role where the candidate will learn the Trachte Manufacturing functions in Mechanical Engineering, Continuous Improvement, Lean and Safety Initiatives. This position will spend several months in each function learning how to promote a lean culture by analyzing machine setup procedures, documenting current state and identifying future state with process improvements. This individual will have an opportunity to lead time studies and implement process improvements with new standard methods. This position will also utilize AutoCAD to update production floor layouts and offer improvements to process flow.
