Job summary

NC State University is seeking a Department HR Specialist in the College of Engineering to deliver comprehensive HR support across multiple departments. You will handle end-to-end HR actions, onboarding, performance management, time and leave administration, and faculty-related processes within an HR operating hub.

You will advise department leadership, coordinate with university partners, and ensure compliance for international visa sponsorships (J-1, H-1B).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with experience interpreting complex policies for diverse audiences.
• Proven ability to manage competing priorities and high-volume deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Direct HR experience within NC State University, including working knowledge of NC State personnel policies and enterprise systems.

Responsibilities

• Full-Lifecycle Personnel Administration across all employee classifications.
• Facilitate complex faculty processes (Phased Retirement, Scholarly Leave, Tenure Clock extensions).
• Research and resolve non-standard personnel, payroll, and leave issues.
• Collaborate with Department Heads to translate policies into actionable guidance.
• Oversee international visa sponsorships (J-1, H-1B) and monitor end-dates.
• Manage WolfTime leave, Additional Pay, Summer Salary, and payroll lockout compliance.
• Provide training and troubleshooting for journey-level specialists, improve hub workflows.
• Maintain official department records per retention policies.
