Job summary

Frost is seeking an Engineering Capability Leader– Digital Services in Austin to guide architectural decisions, lead software engineers, and drive secure, scalable digital banking solutions. You will partner with product, security, and design teams to deliver high-impact systems.

The role requires hands-on leadership, strong technical vision across web/mobile/API platforms, and a commitment to Frost’s service culture and integrity.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or equivalent experience in CS/Engineering.
• Minimum 6 years of experience leading software engineering teams.
• Experience with Java Microservices, Angular, and/or Mobile (iOS/Android).
• Experience with Cloud, API, DevOps, and related methodologies.
• Ability to lead and develop engineers; strong collaboration with stakeholders.
• Knowledge of secure development practices.

Responsibilities

• Manage the full development lifecycle for a team of software engineers across digital services (web, mobile, APIs, platforms).
• Provide technical reviews to ensure alignment with business needs, change control, architecture, security, and Frost standards.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, BAs, Engineers, Experience Design, InfoSec, Risk, and lines of business to estimate effort and feasibility and to design new systems.
• Lead and coach engineers and tech leads; ensure delivery quality and operational excellence.
• Ensure digital solutions are secure, scalable, observable, and well monitored.

As an Engineering Capability Leader– Digital Services at Frost, you are subject matter expert, bringing together various technical areas to assist in the creation of new systems. What you’ll do:

• Manage the entire development lifecycle for a team of software engineers with assigned programs and systems, including establishing the underlying architecture of interrelated software applications across the Bank’s Digital Services channel, including web, mobile, APIs, and supporting platforms
• Utilize subject matter expertise in reviewing software development for a group of software engineers to ensure alignment with business needs, change control procedures, enterprise architecture, security, and Frost development standards
• Collaborate with and provide technical advice to Product Owners, Business Analysts, Software Engineers, Experience Design, Information Security, Risk, and lines of business to estimate level-of-effort, timing, and feasibility, to design new systems based on program requirements, and to optimize system and program functionality
• Lead, coach, and develop Software Engineers and technical leads; establish accountability for delivery, engineering quality, and operational excellence.
• Ensure digital solutions are secure, resilient, scalable, performant, observable, and accessible, with appropriate production monitoring and support practices.
• Proactively identify and address architecture, functional, non-functional, security, resiliency, performance, and technical-debt issues.
• Provide strategic thought leadership while ensuring a tactical execution and implementation of initiatives
• Always take action using Integrity, Caring, and Excellence to achieve all-win outcomes

What you’ll need:

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, in a related field, or equivalent experience
• Demonstrated ability to develop technical solutions, typically requiring a minimum of 6 years of experience
• Demonstrated experience with Java Microservices, Angular, and/or Mobile (iOS/Android) technologies
• Demonstrated experience with Cloud, API, DevOps, and methodologies
• Demonstrated experience independently identifying issues and designing solutions for the biggest and most complex programs and systems at the bank
• Demonstrated experience synthesizing and directing software development efforts for a group of Software Engineers
• Proven ability to lead a team including coaching, developing, and retaining engineering talent.
• Current knowledge of emerging market trends, development methodologies, and development frameworks that improve application security
• Strong understanding of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures associated with programming

Additional Preferred Skills:

• Demonstrated experience with TypeScript, Kotlin, Swift, and Java languages
• Demonstrated experience supporting customer-facing digital banking, financial-services, payments, or similarly regulated platforms
