Job summary

Frost is seeking a Software Engineer II – Java & Microservices in Texas. You will design, implement, test, and document modules, collaborating with teams to deliver scalable enterprise solutions.

You’ll work with Java, SQL, Spring Boot, and microservices, focusing on RESTful APIs, security, and event-driven patterns using Kafka or RabbitMQ. The role emphasizes quality, testing, and continual improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
• At least 2 years of experience independently identifying issues and implementing solutions.
• Strong understanding of software development principles and methodologies.
• Experience with Java and SQL.
• Experience building scalable enterprise apps with Spring Boot and microservices.
• Experience with RESTful services, JWT/OAuth2, and event-driven architectures (Kafka/RabbitMQ).
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes or OpenShift.

Who You Are

As a Software Engineer II – Java & Microservices at Frost, you are our code guru, not only configuring the systems but understanding the why’s behind them. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, configuring, testing, implementing, supporting, and documenting solutions for assigned applications across the organization. You welcome a challenge and want to provide next level experiences to every individual that uses our systems.

• Design, write, test, implement, and document solutions for assigned program modules


• Collaborate with project teams and other Software Engineers to provide technical support


• Support assigned IT systems/applications by troubleshooting and resolving defects

What You’ll Need

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, in a related field, or equivalent experience


• Demonstrated ability to independently identify program issues and develop the appropriate solution, typically requiring at least 2 years of experience


• Strong understanding of software development principles, programming concepts, best practices, and development methodologies


• Demonstrated strong experience with Java and SQL


• Experience designing and building scalable enterprise applications using Spring Boot and Microservices architecture


• Ability to write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code using unit and integration testing frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito


• Strong experience designing, developing, and deploying RESTful microservices, including API design, Spring Security, JWT/OAuth2 authentication, service-to-service communication, and event-driven architectures using Kafka or RabbitMQ


• Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases, as well as containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift


• Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills across application, infrastructure, and system layers


• Knowledge of resilient microservice patterns such as Circuit Breaker, Retry, Timeout, and Bulkhead to ensure system reliability and fault tolerance


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross‑functional teams

Additional Preferred Skills

• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions


• Having knowledge on Banking and Financial is preferred


• Experience with API Gateway technologies


• Exposure to AI-assisted software development tools


• Exposure to front‑end and mobile application development technologies such as Angular, Kotlin, Xcode, or similar frameworks is a plus.
