Job summary

Middlesex Community College seeks a Laboratory Technician I for the CAD & Engineering labs at the Bedford campus. The role maintains sanitary, safe learning spaces, supports CAD/engineering faculty, and provides IT-like support for the Technology Center Desk when needed.

Responsibilities include lab setup, inventory, safety compliance, and assisting students. The position reports to the Dean of STEM and requires strong communication, teamwork, and willingness to learn new technologies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Aptitude to work on CAD programs such as SolidWorks, Revit, Cadence or AutoCAD.
• Knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
• Ability to set up, operate and troubleshoot lab instruments and machinery.
• Ability to assist and support students and faculty.
• Flexibility to adapt to new technologies and methodologies.
• Willingness to continuously learn and improve skills.
• Ability to follow and knowledge of chemical handling safety guidelines.
• Familiarity with MSDS and SDS guidelines.
• Autonomous work ethic under limited supervision.
• Ability to manage and complete multiple tasks within a deadline.
• Strong team and leadership skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safe and efficient learning environments in CAD/Engineering labs.
• Test, calibrate, and set up laboratory equipment for upcoming labs.
• Assist faculty and students with projects and safe operation of equipment.
• Manage inventory of lab consumables and equipment.
• Submit purchase orders and coordinate with department chair for approvals.
• Ensure lab safety signage and procedures are up to date.
