Job summary

The University of Akron seeks an experienced technician to provide design, machining, fabrication and CAD/CAM support for the College. You will train students and faculty in the safe, effective use of machinery and related hardware/software, while ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

Responsibilities include designing and fabricating parts, troubleshooting equipment, and coordinating with vendors on purchasing and installation of new tools. Strong communication is essential.

Qualifications

• Requires 18 months of education or training beyond high school.
• Associates degree preferred.
• Requires a minimum of 4 years' experience in CAD/CAM, machining and mechanical design.
• Journeyman machinist certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide design, machining, fabrication and troubleshooting support.
• Instruct students and faculty in proper use of machinery, CAD/CAM, and related tools.
• Monitor compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations.
• Consult with vendors and oversee purchasing of technical items and equipment.
