Job summary

The University of North Carolina seeks an Academic Advisor II to support undergraduate and graduate students in the Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electromechanical Engineering Technology, and Applied Energy and Electromechanical Engineering programs, including students in transition and prospective entrants.

Advising uses a developmental model to foster progress toward graduation and utilization of campus resources.

Qualifications

  • A master’s degree in academic advising, student services, higher education, engineering, or a related field is required.
  • Three to five years of experience involving student academic advising in a higher education setting.
  • Must be attentive to detail, possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize while multitasking, and manage tasks efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic advising to undergraduate and graduate students in Engineering Technology programs.
  • Monitor at‑risk students and develop a Student Action Plan for those on academic probation.
  • Collaborate with Program Directors to implement academic success initiatives and retain at‑risk students.
  • Support graduate students in ET programs and provide guidance on degree progression.
  • Report on academic progression and graduation‑oriented advising; assist with degree clearance for undergraduates.
  • Assist with new student orientations and events such as NSO and Open House.
