Job summary

The Regents of the University of California, on behalf of its Los Angeles Campus, seeks an undergraduate academic counselor and liaison for graduate programs in the Samueli School of Engineering. You will advise students, lead counseling for the computer engineering major and data science minor, and support other engineering majors and minors.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of University and School rules, regulations, policies, and procedures related to student affairs and curricula requirements.
• Familiarity with Registrar's Office and student services such as Career Center, Center for Accessible Education, Counseling and Psychological Services, Dashew Center and Financial Aid.
• Familiarity with SIS, SRS, CIMS CMS, MyUCLA, DARS, Assist, Transferology.
• Ability to interpret transcripts and calculate GPAs and units with attention to detail.
• Computer and database skills to maintain student databases, degree audits, and generate reports and presentations (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Wordpress, UNIX).
• Time management and organizational skills; ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
• Ability to multi-task with interruptions and think strategically in demanding situations.
• Skill in employing fundamental counseling techniques.
• Communication, interpersonal skills and political acumen.
• Ability to make oral presentations to student groups and staff.
• Skill in writing grammatically correct reports and correspondence.
• Supervisory skills to train, delegate and monitor work of student clerks.

Responsibilities

• Advise students on enrollment policies, degree requirements, course scheduling, academic standing, and campus resources.
• Lead academic counseling for the computer engineering major and data science minor; support advisors for other engineering majors and minors.
• Review quarterly proposed course offerings, assess scheduling conflicts and capacity issues affecting time to degree.
• Consult with the Computer Science and Electrical Engineering chairs on policy and curricular matters.
• Coordinate graduate open house and orientation events with departments; assist with ESAP considerations.
• Support summer session and transfer course equivalency reviews with the lead Course Evaluations advisor.
• Assist engineering admissions with transfer admissions and outreach events.
• Maintain academic databases and produce statistical and analytical reports as requested.
