Job summary

Southwest Research Institute is seeking an Engineer - Research Engineer specializing in Spacecraft Avionics. You will design, analyze, verify, and test analog and power electronics for space applications, leading a team through the full lifecycle from concept to hardware.

The role involves interfacing with customers, presenting data to justify designs, and supporting motor/ mechanism control and field deployments at customer sites. A U.S. citizen will be required for security clearance.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Design, test, and delivery of printed circuit boards; perform worst-case analyses for analog/power electronics.
  • Travel to provide field support at customer facilities.
  • Guide PCB lifecycle, coordinating with PCB designers/manufacturers and inter-disciplinary teams.

Objectives of this Role:
  • Responsible for design, analysis, documentation, verification, and test of analog and power electronics hardware for space applications including power conversion, distribution, and storage.
  • Work on the full lifecycle design for related flight analog electronics in high reliability systems for space applications; define requirements, write specifications, perform analysis and implement designs from concept to hardware; lead and work with team of engineers.
  • Interface with customers, and compile and present data to justify design.
  • Support design for motor and mechanism control.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for design, test, and delivery of printed circuit boards; complete worst case circuit analysis and other analysis necessary to justify related analog/power electronics.
  • Travel is required in order to provide field support at customer facilities.
  • Will work on full PCB life cycle including providing direction to PCB designers and/or manufacturers, and working within an integrated project team with other disciplines such as packaging, parts, reliability, production and quality assurance.
Requirements:
  • Requires a Bachelors or a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related engineering degree field.
  • 0-3 years: Power Systems Development.
  • 0-3 years: Circuit Design, with emphasis on power electronics and/or analog design.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.
Special Requirements:
