Job summary

SpaceWorks Enterprises, Inc. in Atlanta, GA is seeking a talented avionics engineer to contribute to conceptual and detailed design of avionics subsystems for advanced spacecraft and aircraft.

You will size power systems, select components, perform trade studies, and help integrate microcontrollers, PCBs, and RF subsystems. The role covers hands-on circuit design, schematic capture, PCB layout (Altium preferred), and verification testing, with emphasis on EMI, grounding, and environmental

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience with avionics systems engineering including requirements generation, power budgets, link budgets, mass budgets, environmental testing, and cost analysis.
  • Hands-on design and integration of microcontrollers, PCBs, power management, distribution, and RF subsystems.
  • Schematic capture and PCB layout, verification testing (Altium preferred).
  • EMI, grounding architectures, and vibration in avionics environments.
  • U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain DoW Secret Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptual design of avionics subsystems for advanced spacecraft and aircraft, including power system sizing and trade studies.
  • Developing PCBs, wiring harnesses, power systems, and avionics assemblies from concept to prototyping and release to production.
  • Designing and analyzing analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits for power, control, comms, and propulsion subsystems.
  • Integrating and validating avionics with ground and flight-test applications.
  • Supporting avionics mission and safety requirements development and process improvement.

A DAY IN THE LIFE
  • Conceptual design of avionics subsystems for advanced concept spacecraft and aircraft, including power system sizing, component selection, and design trade studies
  • Developing printed circuit boards, wiring harnesses, power systems, and avionics assemblies, starting with conceptualization and requirements definition, and moving to design, prototyping, verification, and release to production
  • Designing and analyzing analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits for power, command and control, communication, and propulsion subsystems
  • Integrating and validating custom and commercial off-the-shelf avionics for ground and flight-test applications
  • Supporting development of avionics mission and safety requirements as well as improving avionics development processes

What We Are Looking For
  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar
  • Experience with avionics systems engineering including requirements generation, power budgets, link budgets, mass budgets, functional and environmental testing, and cost analysis
  • Direct experience with hands-on design and integration of microcontrollers, printed circuit boards, power management and distribution, and RF subsystems
  • Direct hands-on experience with circuit design, schematic capture and PCB layout, and verification testing (Altium preferred)
  • Direct experience with analog signal conditioning circuitry related to reading sensors including amplification and filtering
  • Direct experience with digital circuitry related to driving motors/solenoids, ARM microcontrollers, and Ethernet communications
  • Experience with electronics test equipment (multimeter, oscilloscope, network analyzer, logic analyzer, etc...)
  • Understanding of EMI, bonding, and grounding architectures
  • Highly organized team player with strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible to obtain a DoW Secret Security Clearance
BONUS POINTS IF YOU HAVE...
  • MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar is an advantage
  • Experience with high-reliability systems and dynamic environments of launch vehicles, aircraft, UAVs, and/or spacecraft
  • Experience with SPI, Serial (UART, RS-232, 422, and 485), Ethernet, CAN, RTDs, Thermocouples, 4-20 mA and 0-5 VDC protocols
  • Familiarity with federal, military, and industry standards, requirements, and best practices for avionics design and test (MIL-810, SMC-S-016, RCC-319/324, MIL-461, NASA-8739)
