Job summary

EVONA, a space startup in the Los Angeles area, seeks an avionics engineer to lead the design, development, integration, and testing of avionics systems for a bleeding-edge spacecraft.

You will design and implement high-performance, high-reliability electrical systems including harnessing, power, sensors, navigation, safety, and flight computers, on demanding timelines, with hands-on prototyping and rigorous testing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or science discipline.
  • Familiarity with PCB lifecycle: schematic capture, layout, analysis.
  • Experience managing analysis products and feeding back to design.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • 2+ years designing complex electrical/control systems in harsh environments (spacecraft, drones, defense).

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, build, and test avionics systems for spacecraft.
  • Hands-on prototyping, troubleshooting, and testing of avionics and electrical systems.
  • Drive rapid execution and iteration efforts that put hardware in orbit quickly.
  • Design avionics systems that meet company and mission goals and provide new capabilities for the in-space economy.
  • Negotiate requirements, having a deep understanding of the company and mission objectives.
  • Implement test plans consistent with the mission's risk posture and own test campaigns.
  • Conduct design reviews, test readiness reviews, and flight readiness reviews with emphasis on technical excellence.

Job description

Working with an exciting Space start up in the LA area you will help lead the design, development, integration, and testing of avionics systems for a bleeding edge new Spacecraft Development.

You will be responsible for the design and implementation of high performance, high reliability avionics and electrical systems including harnessing, batteries and power systems, sensors, mechanisms, navigation, safety systems, and flight computers on demanding timelines.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, build, and test avionics systems for spacecraft.
  • Hands-on prototyping, troubleshooting, and testing of avionics and electrical systems - PCBs, harnessing, sensors, power management, flight computers, RF systems, test equipment, and more
  • Drive rapid execution and iteration efforts that put hardware in orbit quickly
  • Design avionics systems that meet company and mission goals and provide new capabilities for the in-space economy
  • Negotiate requirements, having a deep understanding of the company and mission objectives and providing alternative solutions
  • Implement test plans consistent with the risk posture of the mission and own the outcome of test campaigns
  • Conduct design reviews, test readiness reviews, and flight readiness reviews with a heavy emphasis on technical excellence
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or science discipline
  • Familiarity with and experience in the full lifecycle of PCB schematic capture, layout, and analysis
  • Experience managing analysis products and incorporating their feedback into design
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • 2+ years of experience designing complex electrical and/or control systems that operate in harsh environments (spacecraft, autonomous vehicles, drones, defense, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with RF and communication system design and analysis
  • Experience with embedded software and microcontrollers
  • Experience with Altium, LTSpice, ANSYS HFSS, and similar design and analysis software
  • Experience with spacecraft on-orbit operations
