Job summary

Duke Energy Florida is seeking an engineer to perform steady-state analysis of the transmission system and support NERC/FERC compliance and regulatory filings. You will engage with FRCC and state regulators, participate in inter-utility groups, and provide technical transmission planning support to multiple company areas.

The role requires strong engineering fundamentals, communication skills, and the ability to work extended hours during storms.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited B.S. in Engineering required; M.S. may substitute
  • Passing FE Exam preferred
  • Experience in electric utility industry preferred
  • Department-specific experience in Transmission Planning, NERC/FERC compliance, or OATT preferred
  • Must have valid driver's license and be able to work extended hours during emergencies
  • Must live within 50 miles of the designated Duke Energy facility

Responsibilities

  • Perform steady-state analysis to verify reliability requirements
  • Support compliance with NERC Reliability Standards and maintain compliance documentation
  • Assist with filings for FERC Orders and comment on NOPRs
  • Support FRCC regulatory and compliance efforts with FRCC staff
  • Ensure compliance with Florida PSC Transmission Planning requirements
  • Participate in inter-utility system working groups
  • Provide technical support on transmission planning issues to the company
  • Represent the company at regional reliability team meetings
  • Perform progressively complex engineering work under supervision
  • Support emergency storm restoration when required

Job description

  • Develop skills to perform steady-state analysis of the Duke Energy Florida transmission system to verify reliability requirements
  • Support compliance with applicable NERC Reliability Standards and maintain compliance documentation
  • Support development of filings for FERC Orders and provide comments on NOPRs
  • Assist with FRCC regulatory and compliance efforts, interfacing with FRCC staff and members
  • Support compliance with Florida Public Service Commission Transmission Planning requirements and apply relevant state laws and regulations
  • Participate in inter-utility system working groups
  • Provide technical support on transmission planning issues to Transmission and other company areas
  • Represent the company at regional reliability team meetings
  • Perform progressively complex engineering work with general to limited supervision
  • Support emergency storm restoration when required
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program required
  • Master's degree in Engineering considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree
  • Engineer II: minimum of 2 years of engineering experience
  • Engineer III: minimum of 4 years of engineering experience
  • Passing grade on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam preferred
  • Programming experience in Python, batch files, or Visual Basic preferred
  • Competence in engineering theories and principles preferred
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills preferred
  • Experience in the electric utility industry preferred
  • Department-specific experience applicable to Transmission Planning, NERC Compliance, FERC Compliance, or the OATT preferred
  • Ability to deal with individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds preferred
  • Must work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Must support emergency storm restoration, potentially requiring extended hours
  • Must live within 50 miles one way of the designated Duke Energy facility
