Qualifications

  • Engineer II requires a minimum of 2 years engineering experience.
  • Engineer III requires a B.S. in Engineering from ABET accredited program or state PE registration; master's degree may substitute for B.S.
  • Engineer III requires a minimum of 4 years engineering experience.
  • Valid Driver's License is required.
  • Ability to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to their Duke Energy facility.
  • Ability to work on construction sites and in office environments.
  • Willingness to travel 15-25%.
  • Preferred: Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam

Responsibilities

  • Support all phases of major power-generation projects from scoping to close-out.
  • Support development of project scope and EPC bid-package documentation.
  • Coordinate interconnection design and align contracts with interconnection scope.
  • Assist with cost estimates, schedules, risk analysis, bid evaluation, and contract development.
  • Provide engineering oversight for compliance with project requirements and standards.
  • Participate in design reviews, construction support, RFI resolution, commissioning, testing, and warranty support.
  • Prepare technical reports, calculations, and sketches; propose process improvements.
  • Conduct and review power-system studies.
  • Plan, organize, estimate, schedule, and monitor work with guidance.
  • Develop positive working relationships and coordinate activities.
  • Maintain accurate records and stay current with new developments.
  • Support Duke Energy goals and represent the company professionally.

Job description

  • Support all phases of major power-generation projects, from initial project scoping and development through performance testing and final close-out

  • Support cost estimates, schedules, risk analysis, bid evaluation, and contract development
  • Provide engineering oversight for compliance with project requirements, design criteria, and Duke Energy and industry standards
  • Participate in design and drawing reviews, construction support, technical RFI resolution, commissioning, performance testing, and project warranty support
  • Prepare technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches; conduct analysis and recommend process enhancements and standards
  • Conduct and review power-system-related studies
  • Plan, organize, estimate, schedule, and monitor work activities under guidance of higher-level employees
  • Develop positive working relationships and coordinate work activities
  • Maintain accurate records and files
  • Keep current with new developments, technologies, procedures, standards, and equipment

Requirements
  • Engineer II: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program; a master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. engineering degree
  • Engineer II: Minimum of 2 years engineering experience
  • Engineer III: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or state registration as a Professional Engineer; a master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. engineering degree
  • Engineer III: Minimum of 4 years of engineering experience
  • Valid Driver's License required
  • Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
  • Hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility
  • Ability to perform work on construction sites and in office environments
  • Ability to perform occasional mildly strenuous physical activity, including extensive walking on uneven surfaces and climbing stairs/ladders
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including hardhat, safety glasses, protective clothing, and earplugs
  • Willingness and ability to travel 15-25% (also stated as 25%)
  • Preferred: Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam
  • Preferred: Increasingly proficient in principles of project management
