  • Experience with CATIA V5/V6 is a plus; CAD proficiency mandatory.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T and cost/quality/schedule tradeoffs.
  • Familiarity with sprint/project management in a fast-paced environment.

Job description

Job Purpose

The Design Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the development of manufacturing processes associated with the manufacture of Honda Aircraft Company products. The Design Manufacturing Engineer will work with Engineering during the development of products to; ensure producibility, evaluate and develop efficient build processes, develop tooling requirements, and define detailed part configurations associated to their area of responsibility. The Design Manufacturing Engineer will also evaluate, define and support the implementation of process improvements during the manufacturing of Honda Aircraft Company products.

Key Accountabilities
  • Take ownership of all production process definition and implementation of assigned A/C area(s)
  • Identify and approve tooling required for assigned A/C area(s) creating new Tooling Requests, performing Root Cause Analysis on Non-conformances generated by tooling, and identifying work-arounds for tooling deficiencies
  • Review and approve all Engineering drawings and models for assigned A/C areas, ensuring parts, assemblies, and/ or installations are manufacturable
  • Review major Engineering and/or router changes with shop floor at the start of the respective Position
  • Create/ revise Installation Build Plans for new/ revised Engineering for assigned A/C areas
  • Manage all Design for Manufacturability Requests for assigned A/C area(s) reviewing/ creating and approving all internal and external submissions
  • Review and approve all CR’s (Change Requests) to determine positive/ negative impacts to Production coordinating with the various departments within Honda Aircraft Company.
Qualifications, Experience, And Skills
  • Minimum Educational Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mechanical or aerospace preferred
  • Minimum Experience: 2 yrs
  • Other Job-Specific Skills :Manufacturing or directing the manufacturing of detail parts, assemblies, and installations to include:
    • Lead and support manufacturability reviews (DFM/DFA) for detail parts, assemblies, and installations, ensuring designs are optimized for efficient production, cost, quality, and schedule within aircraft interiors and paint processes.
  • Develop, define, and validate installation and assembly plans for aircraft interior components with a focus on accessibility, sequence optimization, tooling requirements, ergonomic considerations, and in-service maintainability.
  • Plan and coordinate aircraft paint and finishing processes, including surface preparation, masking strategies, coating application, cure cycles, and rework/repair considerations to support production rate and quality requirements.
  • Define and document assembly processes for complex aerostructures (both composite and metallic), ensuring compatibility with interior installation sequencing and final paint operations.
  • Evaluate design configurations for integration risks, including tolerance stack-ups, interface management, and installation constraints across interior systems and painted surfaces.
  • Proven ability to define small-to-medium complex detail part fabrication, assembly, and installation tooling
  • 2D/3D Drawing reviews and approvals for Engineering designs and specifications to ensure manufacturability of detail parts, assemblies, and installations
  • CATIA V5/ V6 experience is a plus, experience with computer aided design mandatory.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with GD&T a must
  • SAP experience is a plus
  • Proven ability to trouble-shoot defects, manufacturing errors, and time consumption/ learning curve issues to improve shop floor performance
  • Ability to analyze a variety of engineering data to help determine how to meet company objectives
  • Ability to perform vendor cost analysis versus internal costs to determine best location for manufacturing
  • Project management experience as a Mfg. Engineer
  • Should show proven experience with project management in a fast-paced work environment having reported out progress to peers, direct supervision, and upper management with experience in plant floor scheduling, creating project files, Gantt charts, process flow charts, track job progress, resource allocation, etc.
  • Proven capability to direct the work of other Mfg. Engineers to support the defined build sequence a must.
  • Individual must be a self-starter able to work under minimal supervision
  • Experience in an IPT (Integrated Product Team) Member.
  • Promote and contribute to overall team environment, harmony, etc. is a must
