Confidential in Pennsylvania seeks an Engineering Manager to plan, organize, implement and control engineering, R&D, and production design activities to meet customer specs, costs, and schedules.
You will lead a multi-discipline team, establish standards, manage budgets, and partner with marketing and leadership to drive projects from RFP to sustaining engineering, with a hands-on and strategic approach.
Manager of Engineering shall be responsible to plan, organize, implement and control a variety of activities related to engineering, research and development, process improvements and production design related to customer specifications to ensure company business goals and customer requirements are met within cost and on schedule.
Projects will include but are not limited to: New Product Development IP designs, Build-to-Print, Design to Spec, and other relevant design activities. The Engineering Manager shall be responsible for ensuring the completion of projects from the Request for Proposal (RFP) phase thru Contract Award, Detailed Design, Design Validation/Certification, initial Production, and sustaining engineering efforts.
Contribute to all aspects of the business as a member of the Leadership Team.
Manage an Engineering Department with a diverse set of disciplines including manufacturing equipment programming.
Organize, schedule and supervise efforts of R&D, Design and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure engineering activities are completed on schedule and within cost.
Evaluate engineers’ performance and track their developmental needs.
Establish department budget and personnel requirements.
Support Marketing in technical/customer presentations.
Execute review of detailed design activities including manufacturing drawing review, stress analysis, project schedules, etc.
Schedule design reviews, department meetings and interdepartmental presentations to ensure design points are understood and are concurrent with other organization activities.
Ability to take “hands on” approach as well as give appropriate direction.
Set engineering standards and policies that promote technical excellence and interdepartmental cooperation.
Implement appropriate design/office automation tools and methods to ensure the efficiency of departmental design and documentation tasks.

Required Education & Experience:
10 years of experience with BS degree or equivalent experience
Understanding of a broad range of engineering skills. Preferably in aircraft/aerospace design and structural analysis. Product development background necessary.
Preferred experience with aircraft certification to EASA, Transport Canada, and/or FAA 14 CFR FAR 25 requirements.
Experience from program award (kick-off) to Milestones such as:PDR (Preliminary Design Review), CDR (Critical Design Review), PRR (Production Readiness Review), SOF (Safety of Flight), EIS (Entry-into-Service).
Strong understanding of engineering design, GD&T, and configuration management, following the guidelines of ASME Y14.5 and AS9100.
Preferred experience with CAD software (Solidworks, AutoCad, CATIA V5, Mastercam, Surfcam).
Ability to read and work from engineering design documents, prototypes, and sketches
Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred experience with analysis tools such as FEA / FEM tools MSC NASTRAN / PATRAN, ANSYS, ATA NASTRAN / FEMAP
Understanding of the value of Project Management Skills with experience working with internal or external customers and resources.
Vibration and environmental test experience per MIL-STD-810.
Ability to read / support the creation of 3D models and 2D drawings with dimensioning and tolerance per ANSI/ASME Y14.5 standards.
Support manufacturing team during the both Product Development Phase (i.e. initial design for manufacturability and redesigns, as required during the development phase) and during Production
Lead and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the organization, including but not limited to Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE), process optimization, and safety enhancement programs. Identify opportunities for efficiency gains, cost reduction, and quality improvements, and champion cross-functional efforts to implement sustainable solutions.
Experience with machining various metals for production and support tooling.
Experience with electro/mechanical assembly and testing processes
Experience with sheet metal forming and welding processes.
Experience with CNC Machining equipment/laser manufacturing is beneficial.
Preferred experience with CAD software (CATIA V5, Mastercam, Surfcam and Solidworks).
Preferred experience designing processes to hold tight tolerances and complex assemblies.
Strong communication skills and ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels of the organization.
Ability to present and influence information to audiences that may include customers.
