Job summary

Commerce Casino seeks a skilled maintenance technician to perform repairs and routine upkeep on machinery, equipment, and facilities within the Casino & Hotel premises.

The role covers carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, masonry, and mechanical tasks, including tear down and setup of tournament tables and general maintenance. Requires minimum 3 years of experience and a High School Diploma; English literacy is required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience in repairing and maintaining various electrical and mechanical equipment.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must be able to speak, read, and understand English.
• Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems; able to maintain hot water systems and commercial kitchen equipment.
• Must have a solid electrical background with required certification and have completed a trade.
• General Windows OS knowledge is required.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS

1. This position performs a variety of general semi-skilled to skilled maintenance, alteration, and repairs to machinery, equipment, or facilities as assigned or in accordance with basic skills and abilities and standard procedures. Maintenance and building modifications of the Casino & Hotel premises. Performs all other work‑related duties as assigned by the Engineering Supervisor. Completes assigned work orders. Tear down and setup of tournament tables misc. general maintenance.

Required Knowledge:

Carpentry: installs shelves, cabinets, and chair rails; hangs pictures and bulletin boards; repairs poorly fitting doors, windows, or drawers; repairs wood flooring and carpet installation and removal.

Electrical: Replaces broken or defective light switches, sockets, outlets, bulbs, fixtures, fluorescent tubes, and starters; performs minor rewiring; installs electrical outlets and light and fluorescent fixtures.

Masonry: Patches broken asphalt, concrete, and plaster surfaces; replaces loose bricks or ceramic tiles.

Painting: performs maintenance painting on the interior and exterior of buildings;

Plumbing: Replaces or repairs defective flush valves, faucet and toilet washers and packing; stops leaks in joints by tightening; replaces short lengths of pipe; cleans clogged pipe lines using a snake, force cup, or chemicals; assists in steamfitting work; under direction, installs plumbing fixtures, and water and sewage lines.

Mechanical: Replaces or adjusts drive belts; maintains and adjusts motors, pumps, and County of Los Angeles - Class Specification Bulletin Page 1 of 2 compressors; performs minor maintenance and adjustments on heating, cooling, or ventilating systems; maintains sewing machines, washing machines, electrical appliances, and kitchen equipment.

Miscellaneous: Replaces glass in windows, doors, and partitions; performs minor sheet metal work; makes minor roof repairs; sharpens saws and power tool bits and blades, performs grounds and garden maintenance. Inspects buildings to insure safety and to determine need for repair or maintenance. Keeps records and makes reports of performed work and services. May operate low-pressure boilers and auxiliary equipment.May maintain and repair various types of equipment and tools. May have responsibility for scheduling maintenance work and ordering supplies and materials. May supervise patient helpers, public assistance recipients, juvenile court wards, or inmates in general building maintenance work. May drive automotive equipment in performance of duties.

QUALIFICATIONS

Work Experience Required: Minimum 3 years of experience in repairing and maintaining various types of electrical and mechanical equipment.

Education: High School Diploma and/or equivalent combination of work experience and education.

Other Requirements: Must be able to speak, read, and understand English. Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems; ability to maintain hot water system and repairs to commercial kitchen equipment. Must have good electrical background with required certification and have completed a trade. Must demonstrate positive/enthusiastic approach to all assignments. Must be clean, well-groomed, and have a professional appearance. Attendance and punctuality are an essential function of the position.

Must be able to work with minimal supervision and make educated ethical decisions as necessary. Must be able to resolve conflicts and have effective communication skills with all levels of employees and be able to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment. Must demonstrate an ability to work independently, prepare detailed professional correspondence, memoranda, policies, procedures as well as regulations related to the employee’s duties. A general knowledge of the Windows based computer operating systems is also required.

SCHEDULED HOURS

Commerce Casino operates 24 hours, 7 days a week. Schedules may vary depending on business needs.
