  • Plan, organize, complete and document results of experiments, plant trials and product performance investigations conducted for Novelis, customers, and suppliers, responsible for reliability and accuracy of data and preliminary analysis of results
  • Work individually or as a part of a team to perform routine and non-routine tasks, and may coordinate the efforts of others to achieve common goals
  • Propose, justify and lead projects for a site or segments of larger projects
  • Assist with feasibility studies to analyze the commercial and technical viability of new products and processes
  • Assist with developing tests and testing regimes to demonstrate products are fit for purpose
  • Drive process improvements within a department or a location; may be responsible for maintenance of critical equipment or process
  • Meet assigned project commitments, demonstrating an understanding of project timelines
  • Clearly communicate technical information and results to internal customers
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with work group and other internal functional areas.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science or Metallurgical Engineering with typically 1 to 2 years of experience in a manufacturing or R&D environment
  • Specific experience related to aluminum products would be a distinct advantage, although applicants with relevant experience in steels or other metals would also be considered
  • Working knowledge of one or more metallurgical processes such as casting, hot rolling, cold rolling, annealing, laboratory heat treatments, materials characterization techniques, etc. is highly preferred
  • Ability to work with limited supervision from supervisor, project leader or senior technical staff
  • Possess advanced computer skills to collect, store and analyze data and image preferred
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize responsibility; must be able to manage multiple tasks without compromising the quality of work and data
  • Critical thinking, problem solving and attention to details; strong communication and presentation skills for reporting to internal partners
  • Ability to interact with different levels of the organization
  • Ability to independently isolate a problem and draw upon knowledge and experience to design an appropriate, well-controlled experiment to identify cause and possible solutions
