DOTD is seeking an experienced Engineer 3, 4, or 5 to support transportation projects and programs through bridge and structural design, bridge preservation, load rating, plan development, and technical support for transportation infrastructure projects. This position supports the development, delivery, maintenance, or improvement of transportation infrastructure by applying engineering principles, conducting technical analysis, coordinating projects, and conducting compliance-related reviews.
No prior licensed engineering experience is required — training is provided, with opportunities for career progression and advancement through the Engineering job series.
Positions are located Statewide, and report to Engineer 7/ Bridge Inspection Engineer.
Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering.
Note: Applications will be accepted from persons who possess a current Engineer Intern Certificate in states other than Louisiana. However, the applicant will be required to obtain a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate prior to appointment. The hiring agency will verify that all requirements are met.

Career Progression: This position is part of a Career Progression Group and may be filled as Engineer 3, 4, or 5 based on qualifications and agency needs.
These positions qualify for a Special Entrance Rate (SER).
Engineer 3 – $2,671.20
Engineer 4 – $2,952.00
Engineer 5 – $3,158.40
Additional compensation may be considered impart with extraordinary qualifications in accordance with State Civil Service Rules and DOTD policy.
This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); Job Appointment (temporary appointment in a classified position for a limit of four years); or by detail to special duty.
