Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) seeks an Engineer 3, 4, or 5 to support bridge and structural design and preservation across projects statewide. Training is provided, with opportunities for progression within the Engineering job series.

Positions report to the Bridge Inspection Engineer and offer varied career paths. Engineering licensure in Louisiana is required, with waivers for out-of-state engineers pursuing LA licensure.

Qualifications

  • Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering.
  • Note: Applications from those with an Engineer Intern Certificate in other states are allowed if they will obtain a LA Engineer Intern Certificate prior to appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with bridge and structural design activities for transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Reviews or prepares plans, calculations, specifications, estimates, and structural details.
  • Performs or assists with bridge load ratings, structural evaluations, or bridge preservation activities.
  • Provides technical support related to bridge rehabilitation, replacement, preservation, or new capacity projects.
  • Coordinates with project managers, consultants, districts, construction staff, and other internal or external partners.
